We were expertly guided out of the Marina out of the harbour and into the endless blue ocean. As the foam sprayed around the bow we set about laying around on the deck and just letting the cool breeze stop us from feeling too hot in what can only be described as incredible heat. You have to be very careful on board a moving boat and I for one had covered myself in factor 50. It looked as if Jack had spent most of his life on the ocean and his skin was deep brown and crumpled like a used paper bag, it shone like old leather and the laughter lines around his eyes were deep and creased from years of grinning. He grinned a great deal, he and Sophie seemed to have a friendship that was most at ease when they could relate tales of people that they had worked for that wanted the impossible. He was a tall and lean man in his early 60's and she was the wrong side of a half century but they were both strong and fit. If there had ever been any chemistry between them it had been exocised long ago and they had learned how to be the closest of friends.

It was lovely to go sailing around the coasts of some of the most beautiful islands in the world (never mind the Caribbean) and after a bit of a strange journey through Fort Lauderdale in the USA to get as far as Nassua I joined the boat and the crew that I would spend the next two weeks with. The weather as expected was hot and bright and I unpacked my clothes for the trip into my cabin below deck. I had a wander around the boat "Rhapsody" which had 4 cabins and a lovely boat deck with outdoor eating space as well as indoor room. I had a double bed and a shower room. There was also a jacuzzi on the deck so I was in heaven.

We set off from Nassau down towards Eleuthera sailing through the bright blue waters watching as the flying fish darted in and out of the sea. I've never seen such a variety of colours. The only fish I normally get to see are in batter and come with a plate of chips! The other people that were on board were a couple of marine biologists called Jack and Sophie. They said it was a bit of a busmans holiday for them but couldn't bring themselves to be away from the sea.
